Music at the Market
Back again, this Thursday we'll be enjoying sweet tunes performed by Clete Wilson! Hailing all the way from Port Orchard, Clete plays a mix of blues, bluegrass and rock n' roll accompanied by his harmonica. Come for the shopping, stay for the music!
A big thank you to Bremerton Office Machine Company for their continued support of Music at the Market in 2024! To show your gratitude, visit their store at 245 4th Street, Suite 503, in Downtown Bremerton. You never know, a classic typewriter might just be your next great find!
Chef at the Market
It's Chef at the Market this Thursday, July 18th! Chef Nash from Olympic College's culinary arts program will be putting on a cooking demonstration that includes ingredients you can find at the farmers market. This week we'll be learning how to make lettuce and spring rolls! Cooking starts at 5pm.
Kitsap Harvest at the Market
REDUCE FOOD WASTE. DONATE FRESH PRODUCE AT BCFM.
Kitsap Harvests mission is to reduce produce waste and distribute fresh, nutritious, delicious and locally grown fruits and veggies directly to low-income apartments, senior living centers, recovery homes, shelters and soup kitchens in Kitsap County. Their Grow-A-Row program supports this effort by encouraging gardeners from master’s to hobbyists to grow and donate excess produce from their gardens. Donation stations are set up around the county weekly for collection including at BCFM.
In 2022, over 900lbs of produce was collected from BCFM alone, donated by home gardeners, farm vendors and customers purchasing a little extra.
Join the effort to combat food insecurity and help grow Kitsap County’s capacity for sustainable community driven care. For more information visit their website at kitsapharvest.org or visit the info booth at the market.
WIC & Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program
The Farmers Market Nutrition Program for Seniors and WIC participants started on June 1st. Please bring your electronic benefits card to purchase items from eligible farmers. If you require assistance or have questions, visit the Market Info Booth. Our team is eager to clarify details about the program and the usage of your benefits. Your card will be activated in groups by the funding agency, so there's no need for individual activation. For balance inquiries and to check if your card is active, download the designated app.
If you're yet to enroll, applications are available at the Market Info Booth. Completed forms must be sent to Meals on Wheels for approval and cards will be distributed through the mail. Remember, funding operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is valid until October 31, 2024.
Volunteering at the Market
You can make a difference in your community! We are seeking volunteers to assist the market managers with the setup and takedown of the Bremerton Community Farmers Market. Setup begins at 1:30 pm and involves transporting items from onsite storage to the market area, erecting the information booth, music, and other event tents, and arranging chairs, tables, and signs. Takedown commences at 7 pm and consists of returning all items to onsite storage. Help us make the market a great place for the community. Please inform us if you require any accommodations.
Remember, many hands make light work! Sign-up today or email the assistant manager for any questions.
Parking at the Market
We kindly ask you to be considerate neighbors by parking only in designated areas. Please do not park in front of C.J.'s Evergreen General Store. That is 30-minute parking for customers of the store. Kitsap Community Resources has graciously made their parking lot available after 4:30 PM, located just one block away. Note that the boating area has only five designated parking spots. Vehicles parked outside these areas may be ticketed. We appreciate your cooperation!
Do You Love the Market? Let Everyone Know!
Businesses, including farmers markets, rely on reviews from the community to get feedback from customers. It also helps businesses get found easier online, builds trust with consumers, and facilitates word-of-mouth advertising. But more importantly, reviews help businesses know what they are doing well and what needs improvement. The Bremerton Community Farmers Market invites you to leave a review on any of the following platforms:
Market Tokens Are Money!
Still holding on to market tokens from last year? Or perhaps from five or even ten years ago? Market tokens retain their value and remain valid over the years. Remember to take them to the market and use them—that's the reason you acquired them, after all. You might just discover a little treasure hidden in your home; all it takes is a search.
SUN BUCKS Summer Meal Program
Great news! Eligible school-age children in Washington State can get Sun Bucks - $120 per child in grocery benefits during the summer. This is in addition to existing program such as SNAP, summer meal programs, and Women, Infants and Children. Together, these benefits help fuel children during the summer months when school is out. And even better, these benefits can be used at farmers markets! Bring you card to the Market Info booth and use it to purchase EBT $1 market tokens. SUN Bucks is eligible for the SNAP Market Match program and will be matched up to $25. These benefits will be available in mid-June.
WIC & Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program
The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides nutritional aid to seniors 60 years and older who fulfill the income eligibility criteria. This funding will be provided via an electronic benefits card that is accepted at participating farmers markets. For 2024, there's good news: eligible seniors may receive up to $80 to spend on vegetables, fruits, and honey! Remember, the program is available on a first-come, first-served basis and will run until all the funding is distributed. Applications must be mailed in and are available now at the Market Info Booth.
The WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) offers benefits to both WIC participants and farmers. Each WIC participant receives $30 ($90 maximum per family) to buy approved fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs from authorized farmers at farmers markets and farm stands. Inquire about this program at your local Women, Infants, and Children office. Eligible WIC participants receive FMNP benefits on an electronic benefits card, alongside their standard WIC benefits.
WIC Cash Value Benefits (CVB)
Participants in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program are able to utilize their Cash Value Benefits (CVBs) at farmers markets throughout the year to buy fresh, locally sourced fruits and vegetables. These funds are pre-loaded onto an electronic benefits card, ready for use at participating farm booths. The direct engagement between WIC recipients and local farmers not only provides access to nutritious food but also builds community ties and a connection to the origin of their food. By spending WIC CVBs at farmers markets, participants support themselves and their families with healthy choices, bolster local farming, and encourage community-wide healthy eating practices.
