and the public. After that, we will move to a closed session.

Role of the Board of Directors
The Board of Directors of the Bremerton Community Farmers Market (BCFM) serves as the market’s governing body. Its role is to advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of BCFM. The Board participates in development of the strategic direction, acts on issues of policy and planning, contributes their individual skills and strengths, supports the growth and improvement of the Market, and acts as a representative, and advocate for the Market in the greater community.

1. Set directions and strategy. Determine the mission, purpose and values of the BCFM and advocate for it. Set goals for the BCFM and ensure effective planning to reach them.
​
2. Ensure resources. Build a competent board, market manager, and develop a pool of volunteers. Ensure adequate financial resources. Enhance the organization’s public standing.
​
3. Provide oversight and accountability. Ensure legal and ethical integrity. Monitor and strengthen programs and services, protect assets, and provide financial oversight.

Responsibilities of the Board of Directors
Board members will serve a two-year term. Along with this understanding, all members of the Board of Directors are expected to:

1. Attend all board meetings. Attendance of board meetings ensures you are aware of the status of the BCFM and can actively contribute to the conversation. Notify the President prior to the meetings if you are unable to attend.
​
2. Contribute their time. The average number of hours a board member can expect to spend on board-related duties is approximately 6-8 hours per month. This time is spent at monthly board meetings and committee meetings. The BCFM encourages members to spend some of their time at the markets if possible Board members are additionally encouraged to volunteer for tasks identified during board meetings.
​
3. Contribute personal or professional skills. The BCFM has many opportunities to participate with a variety of skills. Contribute personal or professional skills to the BCFM as applicable to the needs of the market.
​
4. Participate in a committee. Board members are required to chair or participate in a Market committee. Committees are essential to help the Market achieve its mission, and are staffed by board members and volunteers. These meetings contribute to the 6-8 hours a month.
